While the office of State Representative is a service in state government, the election is local in nature. Media input, therefore, is local.
In the print media, community newspapers and the community sections of metropolitan newspapers play a major role in covering the election. Of course, the best outreach comes from the voters meeting the candidates and attending debates where you can hear the candidates speak and ask questions to hear their opinions on the issues that matter to you. Thus far, candidates' events have been held in Bolton and Hudson.
VOTERS GET LOOK AT CANDIDATES TO FILL WALRATH’S SEAT The Item, June 6, 2008 By Ken Cleveland BOLTON — Voters in the 3rd Middlesex District heard from candidates seeking to represent them Monday night…
A primary in September will narrow the field by selecting the Democratic Party candidate.
Golder, who has served as a Stow selectman, as well as on several other town boards, said he had had bills filed in the legislature, and “learned the importance of being in the Legislature if you want to get things passed….” The candidates addressed issues from infrastructure to education.
In discussing the state aid formula, Golder said, “the problem is the size of the pot.” He suggested some revenue enhancements could include tolls on the New Hampshire border mirroring those collected by New Hampshire, noting it could recoup some funds from people going north to avoid the sales tax…
Asked about changing the current flat income tax to a graduated tax, the candidates indicated it was not a realistic idea.
It would require a constitutional amendment, Golder noted. “Unfortunately, it’s not politically realistic.” He said his greatest fear was the initiative to eliminate the income tax. He suggested adjustments to make the tax fairer, such as added deductions for moderate-income taxpayers…
The candidate’s night will be rerun several times on Channel 10, Bolton cable television.

There is a scheduled Candidates' Night in Stow on September 10th. Information will be available in the local press prior to the event.
While we can generate our own press, our campaign also wants more candidates' events where the voters can assess each of the candidates.
And of course, there is the Internet: |

Story #1 A meeting was held yesterday at the state house on House 3684 – It is a petition filed at the request of Leonard Golder regarding the establishment of toll booths at the New Hampshire border on certain highways. This is an idea to put tolls on Routes 3, 93, 95, 495, the major highways from New Hampshire into Massachusetts.
The money raised would, theoretically, go to transportation projects.

Just out of curiosity, who's Leonard Golder? Should that be a household name? ...
So in the end I suppose I support Mr. Golder's petition. Isn't there is some rule that tolls collected must be used for funding/maintaining the road they're collected on? That would be a good thing...I-95 on the north shore could use some work, so could I-93.
